Employee referral works on the idea that happy employees are your best recruiters. They know your company and who will fit in, and will only refer those likely to succeed and fit the workplace culture. Giving a bonus adds incentive and urgency, and shows you appreciate the extra effort to call friends, secure their resumes, and help them adjust.
In Malaysia, monetary referral bonuses are given after the candidate is hired and stays at the company for a certain number of months. Some companies also offer non-monetary rewards: gadgets, shopping or restaurant vouchers, extra PTO, etc.
Your employee referral bonus program announcement email should include:
The stipulations for what counts as a successful referral (e.g. referred candidate is hired or stays in the company for X months)
The rewards for each successful referral. Add the specific monetary and/or non-monetary incentive your company is offering
The limitations, like excluding past candidates or close relatives. If the referral program is only available for full-time regular employees [i.e. part-time, contract, or employees under probation cannot avail of the reward system], this should also be specified in the email
The referral steps—it should be clear and easy for the employee to accomplish
